Emotionally Focused Therapy

What is EFT Therapy?

Emotionally Focused Therapy, also known as EFT therapy, is the gold standard for couples’ therapy. EFT is a structured approach that uses certain moments in therapy to facilitate a positive change process. This is done through expanding and re-organizing emotional responses to create positive shifts in partners' relation to each other and themselves. This helps foster the creation of a secure bond between partners. The goal of EFT is to help clients become more aware of their emotions, how they’re feeling, and how to productively act on and use your emotions. EFT is also used to address individual depression, anxiety, and post-traumatic stress (EFIT – Emotionally Focused Individual Therapy) and to repair family bonds (EFFT – Emotionally Focused Family Therapy). EFT has been validated by over 30 years of empirical research based on individual growth, health, dysfunction, and of relationship distress and adult love. (Cited from ICEEFT)

Would this be a good therapy for me?

EFT helps to heal both couples and individuals. If you and your partner find that you get caught in the same cycle of non-productive communication and want to improve on your emotions and reactions in relation to each other, this therapy could be a good fit for you and your partner. This therapy is also good individually, if you experience anxiety, depression, and post traumatic stress, EFT helps the client change core elements in themselves and in their relationships which helps alleviate those challenges.
