EMDR Therapy

What is EMDR Therapy?

Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing, also known as EMDR Therapy, is a therapeutic technique that has the patient focus on the trauma, emotions, and feelings of specific memories while experiencing a type of bilateral stimulation. Bilateral stimulation is a form of stimulation to alternating sides of the body which helps aid in the therapeutic process. The stimulation used is most often done through eye movements but can also be tactile or auditory. EMDR is different from other therapies in that it doesn’t require detailed talking about the trauma and homework in between sessions. EMDR therapy can be completed with fewer sessions compared to other psychotherapies. This therapy is extensively researched and an effective psychotherapy method proven to help everyone from children to adults. In addition to EMDR healing trauma and PTSD, it can resolve other challenges, such as anxiety disorders, depressive disorders, personality disorders, phobias, abuse, violence, and more.
